The Pandemic of 2020 brought disruption, volatility, and innovation to education. Many families are now choosing a decentralized version of schooling for their children, resulting in a significant decline in public school enrollment.
Our Big Purpose
With a BIG PURPOSE for 2023, Genii DAO aims to fully fund our seven in-real-life micro-schools and their staff in the Metaverse.
We also plan to decentralize their GENIE app, which will provide ownership of learning to the learners themselves!
The goal of Genii DAO is to bring together new and experienced unschoolers, mentors, thought leaders, and coaches. We aim to create amazing experiences that encourage and share knowledge of liberation parenting, deschooling, and unschooling practices. FounderI’m a former public school teacher turned UNschooling mom of 6.
I am a creative problem solver and visionary; a curious entrepreneur, who analytically interprets content to facilitate and lead others bravely into inspiring new experiences. I host The Genius Conversation for adults, children and teens in failing learning environments to discover what they authentically want in relationships, learning and school and how to use DEcolonization, DEschooling and Self Directed Learning to actually create the life they dream of.
When I became a widow, the ability for my children to learn in freedom was in jeopardy. I created TheGeniusSchool.org; an international network of micro SDL Communities to provide Authenticity, Creation, Liberation and Community to any family, not only the ones who can afford a parent to stay home.

David is an entrepreneur and runs the creative consulting company The Bear & Unicorn Creative Co Inc. alongside his wife. A 15 year professional in design, brand and communication strategy, David finds himself most excited and tapped into his Genius when helping other impact creators stay focused as they build their brands, doing the hard work of marketing their value and expanding their reach.
David is a father of 11 year old twins and started his unschooling journey like many, at the dawn of covid. David co-hosts the "Unschooling Dads" talk with Cody, jams with Karema at times for "Meet Me at the Corner" and plays in the COMMUNITY, AWARENESS & TECHNOLOGY teams.

Cody Cox is an experienced media producer and production coordinator with a demonstrated history of working in the broadcasting and entertainment industry. With over 25 years of radio, television and live production experience, Cody Cox is an award-winning producer and production manager. He is a skilled live broadcast producer, directing live events and production management with strong media and communications expertise.
Cody's 23 year old biological son attended public, charter and private schools in and around Washington D.C., while his 6 bonus kids were Unschooled. Cody co-hosts the UNschooling Dads talk, providing his unique perspective as a father of public, private school and Unschooled kids.

New Member ExperienceI'm a super-mom of four from generations of Educators! I've taught post-secondary education and owned a 24-hour childcare facility. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Health Management and a Master's in Human Resource Management. I'm the current Chief Operating Officer of two Atlanta-based companies and CEO of three companies developed from my leap from the corporate sector. I'm currently working on my dissertation on Conscious-Centered Living. I'm a Licensed Realtor in the states of Georgia and Florida, a certified Reiki Master & Teacher, Doula, Herbalist, Indigenous Naturopath, Kemetic Yoga Instructor, and the, most important role, an un-schooling mommy that wears many different hats for my legacy. Our generational energy has shifted through my husband and me as we prepare for our legacy to thrive. The role of mommy has been the most fulfilling of my life experience, and our unschooling journey together has been quite eventful. I've worn many homeschooling hats, but so proud to be a "de-schooling" parent and excited to explore this journey with "my babies" to express their genius through self-directed learning.

Using a decentralized crowdfunding platform
We're excited to announce that we'll be using Juicebox, a decentralized crowdfunding platform powered by public smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain, to manage our treasury and fundraising. This platform allows us to set up our funding structure, define how the funds will be distributed, how often, and provide rewards to our community members through tokens. These rules are then locked in place for pre-determined amounts of time called cycles, ensuring nothing can be changed at the last minute.
This platform is on-chain and non-custodial, meaning we own our project and Juicebox has no way to access our projects funds or change its rules.
With Juicebox, we can incentivize our community members to participate in the success of our project and provide transparency to our fundraising process. What will the money be used for?
We have a well-planned allocation of funds that will help us achieve our goals of supporting self-directed learners worldwide. Here's how we plan to use the money:

Monthly salaries to further enable the full-time team leaders to keep leading and building our community.
Expand our DAO Membership:

Families:
We'd love to be able to fund worldwide family retreats for immersion on how to run their businesses better, connect with the community, and create memorable moments with the kids. We want all families to leave enriched and fulfilled.
Expand Awareness:
We plan to host more virtual and in-person events, open new locations, and fund our in-person communities in Philly, Maryland, Atlanta, and San Francisco, as well provide expanded support to our two communities in Kampala, Uganda, and our Metaverse community.
Equity:
Investing in equity means putting in the necessary work to establish protocols, principles, and policies that guide and structure our tools and technology to ensure equitable decision-making and holistic growth for our community.

Our Milestones
I met Ms. Connie’s daughter on a Zoom call. She heard about The Genius School as I introduced myself. In the private Zoom chat, she shared that her mom ran a school in Kampala, Uganda and asked if it was possible for her mom to have a Self Directed Genius School too. I asked myself, “How can I say YES?” (the question I often ask myself when I don’t know how to do something) Immediately, the answer was clear! That began weekly 1 hour Whatsapp phone calls with Ms. Connie and Ms. Harriet, another friend who wanted to open a school for older kids. After meeting on the phone for over a year, Mr. Harriet secured two rooms, hired two Facilitators and is serving between 10-25 Learners in Gundiatid; a 5 Pillar Genius Community. Ms. Connie has trained the teachers on the 5 Pillar Invitations and is hosting DEcolonized Parenting workshops at Beulah; a 5 Pillar Genius Community. They are DEschooling and UNschooling pioneers in their city and country! - Karema
Ideation to creation; it gets real when you organize as a true business entity. Forming the LLC was the first distinction as an idea that was more than a homeschool co-op. We were doing more than meeting around my dining room table. The LLC meant the opportunity to expand. It was the first step of many!
Since the first interest meeting in January 2020, most of the public engagement was on The Genius School’s Facebook page. While it was growing, it wasn’t a place for us to belong as a Community. One of our team members mentioned creating a community on Mighty Networks. The question was will people actually create a profile and interact on yet another platform? The answer was YES! We began with 6 Founders and quickly grew to the first 50, then the first 100, then 200! Are we excited about the numbers? YES! Are we even more excited when an “Audience” member becomes a contributing member of “Community,” you betta believe it!
A DAO is legit when it uses the functionality of web3; blockchain voting, smart contracts that execute Community’s wishes and a shared crypto treasury to realize those wishes. DEcentralized treasury transactions are organized in a multi signature crypto wallet. It took a few days. Some of us had to learn how to set up a wallet. All of us had to determine we were actually going to get this done, and we did!
Back in 2015, sitting in a hospital room, the idea for GENIE APP was first perceived. We were UNschooling in a state that required end of the year evaluations. As UNschoolers, that means me being with the kids and capturing the interests they follow, but I was in the hospital with my husband as he was fighting cancer. I wasn’t able to be home playing, exploring and being curious with my kids. After calling home to check on the kids and reminding them for the millionth time to journal what they were doing, I remember saying aloud, “I wish there was a way they could take their phones, take a pic or a video of what they’re learning, add a school subject, a brief narrative description and send that to their evaluator.” A voice said, “BUILD IT!” I did. It failed. Miserably. During the pandemic when everyone was schooling at home, I got the idea to rebuild GENIE. I applied for a $10k VELA grant to upgrade GENIE and won! GENIE makes it EASY for UNschoolers to document and translate their learning into language schools and college evaluators can understand! We launched in private BETA January 2023. We hope to add AI and blockchain plugins by mid year!
The stages of a project are formulation, concentration, momentum, stability, breakthrough and mastery. What I love most about mastery is “in this Operating State the original intention is fulfilled but the project tends to have a life of its own and continues to be operational. You, the originator of the intention and project, tend to disappear because the intention and the project now entirely belong to others.” Whenever the notifications announce another member has joined the Geniī Community and I don't know them personally, we are closer to achieving mastery! 214 members and counting. We are on our way!
Future Roadmap
Decentralized learning is the decentralization web 3 is looking for in education. Creating a Decentralized Autonomous Organization is a next and natural progressive step for people DEcolonizing Parenting, DEschooling and UNschooling. So, on August 16, 2022 we formed The Geniī DAO. Our motto is FAFO; F*ck Around & Find Out! We did enough effin around and found out that the platform we originally were going to use, didn’t work
When my husband died in 2016, I had a lot to figure out, including what would happen to our UNschooling journey if I had to work full time? It was against the law to drop off my kids FULL TIME to an UNschooling group and the nearest Sudbury school was 45 minutes north or 45 minutes south. I began researching how to open my own UNschooling School. In order for kids to learn in freedom, some states required us to be a church exempt school. To do that, I either needed to make my own religious organization or secure a religious 501c(3) sponsor. The Faith Community, a religious organization dedicated to disrupting, decentralizing and decolonizing harmful faith and theology is the perfect fit! Our filing in PA and MD will be complete early spring 2023!
A robust offering for our Geniī Learners includes Interest Corporations created by Learners & supported by adults, 5 Pillar Invitations presented by Directors AND a Facilitator MARKETPLACE full of variety of courses w/ 100% choice for Learners! The Geniī MARKETPLACE opens early July 2023.
Funding is one of the main problems Geniī DAO is solving. Overhead for the building and salaries are the highest cost factors of micro schools. What if Geniī DAO could solve that? What if families could receive a scholarship fully funding the possibility each family creates during the Genius Conversation? What if Geniī DAO could respectfully compensate each Genius Director and Facilitator? What if Geniī DAO staff received value for their contribution? $5M should do the trick! Fully fund 6 IRL micro schools in the states and in Kampala, Uganda PLUS our community in the Geniīverse, upgrade the GENIE app AND compensate our staff! We are doing what we do best, FA&FO funding!
